Shropshire
is a delightful county & many of its'
clubs have a long record of hosting sides
of all standards. Peter Williams, the proprietor
of the Halfway House, has now hung up his
boots but he was a regular cricket tourist
& helped in the organisation of numerous
national & international tours. At his
previous hotel, the Pengwern in Shrewsbury,
he hosted over
eight
hundred successful cricket, golf, rugby
& other sports tours. In a playing career
spanning four decades, he played for four
of the top Shropshire League teams &
his vast experience helps to match visiting
teams with their local counterparts. Several
teams successfully moved with Peter to the
Halfway House & were able to continue
with their annual fixtures with clubs that
they have played before.
The
price of between £30 & £45
per night per person includes bed &
breakfast plus a late evening meal designed
to fit in with the cricket fixtures. Any
unlikely increase in the VAT rate will be
automatically added to all bills. Crucially
the price also includes help with the arrangement
of fixtures to match the strength of your
team as closely as possible.
The
touring team must provide a good quality
new ball & pay the normal fee for tea.
On a few rare occasions, a fixture with
another touring side of similar standard
might be arranged on a neutral ground with
the costs for pitch hire & a new ball
being shared between both teams. This is
usually between £4 & £5
per person. With this arrangement, tea is
not taken as both teams usually opt for
an early evening barbecue back at the Halfway
House.
A
golf day is one of Peter's specialities
& as a major part of the midweek business
at the Halfway House is hosting Golf
Breaks. A game can be arranged for your
group as a whole or for those having a rest
from cricket. Alternatively, some members
of your team may wish to play 9 or even
18 holes in the morning prior to their cricket
in the afternoon. Most weekends in the year,
the Halfway House hosts up-market Stag
Parties & Hen
Parties with adventure activities
such as Quad Biking, Clay Pigeon Shooting,
Kayaking, Grand Prix Carting or Paintballing.
Peter can organise most of these activities
at short notice, which is useful, if the
weather turns wet. These are not included
in the overall price however.
Should
you wish to commit your fellow players to
the serious danger of alcoholic poisoning,
a marked lack of sleep &, for the single
members, a chance to sample the delights
of the willing Shropshire damsels, please
contact Peter immediately to discuss fixtures
& the likely number of your party. He
will then send you a booking form &
you can start collecting non-refundable
deposits of £50 per person (this can
be done in two hits). Fixtures will then
be confirmed & the final balance is
due anytime up to one month before your
scheduled arrival in Bridgnorth. Individuals
may pay their deposits or final balance
by credit or debit by ringing the Halfway
House direct. All the Tour Manager has to
do is send us a list of likely tourists.
